Tennis: Roddick beats El Aynaoui in epic clash
Andy Roddick beat Younes El Aynaoui 4-6 7-6 4-6 6-4 21-19 in an epic encounter late yesterday to become the youngest man in 11 years to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
The 20-year-old American saved a match point and twice came back from a set down to win the longest match at the Australian Open since tiebreaks were introduced to the event in 1971.
The exhausted players embraced each other at the net after almost five hours on court as the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena rose to their feet in applause.

Going to a high school reunion this year? Me too. Well, it's ten years this year -- whether I'm going or not is another question. Perhaps when the time nears I should consult Sophie. After all,
she can drop reunion knowledge like nobody's business.

Powell defends affirmative action
Calling himself a "strong proponent" of affirmative action, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday he believes race should play a role in university admissions.
"I wish it was possible for everything to be race neutral in this country, but I'm afraid we're not yet at that point where things are race neutral," Powell told CNN's "Late Edition."
"I believe race should be a factor among many other factors in determining the make up of a student body of a university."
Powell's statement goes further than a friend-of-the-court brief President Bush filed with the U.S. Supreme Court opposing the University of Michigan's affirmative action admissions policy.
