Back in 1993, when the pop music world was still reeling from revolutionary releases from Nirvana on one side and Dr. Dre on the other, it briefly looked like jazz was going to make a major comeback in popularity. It was mostly on the strength of "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)," the debut single from Us3's Hand on the Torch. "Cantaloop" combined adequate rap with Herbie Hancock samples and new music to be a huge hit but for whatever reason that's as far as it went.

Early pressings of Hand on the Torch included a bonus disc of mostly instrumental "jazz remixes." The strongest of the bunch is "Bu's Riddim" but all of it is worth checking out.
